Brings a version of 'grep' to Windows boasting the ability to recursively search through files and directories for plaintext strings or utilizing regular expressions (regex).
AstroGrep is a free and open source file search app and search tool developed by AstroComma Inc. for Windows. It's light on system resources, portable, well-designed and reliable.
The download has been tested by an editor here on a PC and a list of features has been compiled; see below. We've also created some screenshots of AstroGrep to illustrate the user interface and show the overall usage and features of this file search program.
Easily search for a text string through files and folders recursively
AstroGrep is a file search utility for Windows that follows the example of UNIX grep utility which can search for text inside of files.
AstroGrep supports regular expressions, versatile printing options, stores most recently used paths and has a "context" feature which is very nice for looking at source code.

- A "context" feature that selects the lines above and below your search expression, or view entire file.

AstroGrep is a free application released under the GPLv3 license on Windows from file search software. With software released under the open source GPLv3 license, anybody can download, install, run and distribute the software with little in terms of restrictions. The latest version we have is 4.4.8 and is available to download here.

What version of Windows can AstroGrep run on?
AstroGrep can be used on a computer running Windows 11 or Windows 10. Previous versions of the OS shouldn't be a problem with Windows 8 and Windows 7 having been tested. It comes in both 32-bit and 64-bit downloads.
